Dear friends, as we gather here in this sacred space, let us take a moment to honor the day that has passed and prepare ourselves for the gentle embrace of sleep. As Thich Nhat Hanh reminds us, "Sleep is the best meditation." So, let us approach this practice with a sense of gratitude and openness, allowing ourselves to be fully present in this moment.

To begin, find a comfortable position in your bed, allowing your body to sink into the softness beneath you. Feel the warmth and protection of your covers, creating a cocoon of safety and comfort. Close your eyes, if it feels right, and take a deep, cleansing breath. Inhale through your nose, filling your lungs with the sweet air of the present moment. Exhale slowly through your mouth, releasing any tension or worries that may linger from the day.

As you continue to breathe, bring your awareness to your body. Notice any areas that feel tense or tight, and with each exhale, invite them to soften and relax. Smile inwardly at these parts of yourself, offering them compassion and understanding. Remember, as Thich Nhat Hanh teaches, "Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out, I smile."

Allow your mind to settle, like a still lake on a windless day. Thoughts may arise, but simply observe them with a gentle curiosity, without judgment or attachment. Imagine these thoughts as leaves floating on the surface of the lake, gently drifting away with each exhale. As you release them, feel yourself sinking deeper into the present moment, into the serenity of your being.

Embrace the stillness that surrounds you, the quiet whispers of the night. Feel the interconnectedness of all things, the way your breath flows in harmony with the rhythms of the universe. In this space of tranquility, you are one with all that is, held in the loving embrace of the cosmos.

Remember, each moment of rest is a gift, an opportunity to nurture and heal yourself, so that you may awaken renewed and ready to embrace the wonders of a new day.
