Allow your breath to return to its natural rhythm, focusing on the present moment without any expectations or judgments.

Now, bring to mind a recent event that caused you distress, hopelessness, or pessimism about the future. As you reflect on this experience, consider how your thoughts would sound if you viewed the situation as permanent. You might think, "This will never end," or "I'll always feel this way." Now, shift your perspective and imagine the situation as impermanent. Recognize that this challenging moment will pass, and you have the strength to overcome it.

Next, consider how you would think about the situation if you took it personally. You might believe that you're solely responsible for the outcome or that it reflects poorly on you as a person. Now, reframe your thoughts to view the situation as impersonal. Acknowledge that external factors beyond your control may have contributed to the event, and it doesn't define your worth as an individual.

Lastly, reflect on how you would think if you believed this situation was pervasive, affecting all aspects of your life. You might feel like negative experiences always happen to you or that your life consistently follows a difficult path. Now, shift your mindset to view the situation as an isolated event, recognizing that it doesn't dictate the course of your entire life. Embrace the idea that you can learn and grow from this experience without letting it overshadow the positive aspects of your life.

Take a deep breath, and when you're ready, gently open your eyes. By practicing this meditation and consciously shifting your thoughts from permanent, personal, and pervasive to impermanent, impersonal, and isolated, you can cultivate a more optimistic outlook. Continue to observe your thought patterns throughout the day, and remember that you have the power to reframe your experiences in a more positive light.
