Embracing Anxiety with Mindfulness

As you settle into a comfortable seated position, allow your body to find a sense of ease and stability. Gently close your eyes and take a few deep, nourishing breaths. With each exhale, let go of any tension or tightness that you may be holding in your body. Soften your jaw, relax your shoulders, and let your belly be soft and expansive.

Now, bring your attention to the natural flow of your breath. Notice the sensations of the breath moving in and out of your body. Perhaps you feel the gentle rise and fall of your chest or the subtle movement of air through your nostrils. Simply observe these sensations without trying to change or control your breath in any way.

As you continue to focus on your breath, you may notice thoughts or distractions arising in your mind. When this happens, meet these experiences with a kind, open, and curious attitude. Acknowledge their presence without getting caught up in their content. Gently guide your attention back to the sensation of your breath, using it as an anchor to the present moment.

If you find your mind wandering frequently, remember that this is a natural part of the process. Each time you notice that you've become lost in thought, simply note the distraction and then return your focus to the breath. This act of noticing and redirecting your attention is the essence of mindfulness practice.
