Embracing the River of Presence
Kindness Within
Peace Within
❝A mindfulness meditation to help you find inner peace by attuning to the present moment and letting go of resistance.❞
As we begin this meditation, I invite you to settle into a comfortable position, either seated or lying down. Allow your eyes to gently close, and take a deep breath in through your nose, letting your lungs expand fully. As you exhale through your mouth, feel any tension or tightness in your body begin to dissolve.
Let's take another deep breath together. Breathing in, feel the cool air entering your nostrils and filling your chest. As you exhale, imagine any remaining stress or worries leaving your body with the warm outbreath.
Now, let your breath return to its natural rhythm. No need to control or change it - simply observe the rise and fall of your chest, the sensation of air moving in and out of your body.
As you rest here, I'd like you to imagine a river flowing nearby. Perhaps you can hear the gentle sound of water moving over rocks, or feel a soft breeze carrying the river's coolness to your skin. This river represents the constant flow of the present moment.
The river is always changing, yet always present. It doesn't resist the boulders in its path or cling to the leaves that fall into its currents. The river simply flows, embracing each moment as it comes.
Now, bring your awareness to your own experience of the present moment. What sensations do you notice in your body? What sounds do you hear in your environment? Can you feel the fabric of your clothing against your skin, or the temperature of the air around you?
Just like the river, see if you can allow each of these experiences to flow through your awareness without grasping or pushing them away. If your mind starts to wander into thoughts of the past or future, gently redirect your attention back to the sensations of the present moment.
As you continue to rest in this river of presence, you may find that your mind and body start to relax more deeply. You're not trying to achieve anything or get somewhere - you're simply allowing yourself to be, just as you are.
Remember, mindfulness is not a destination, but a path. Each moment you spend attuned to the present is a step on that path, a chance to embrace the flow of life rather than resist it.
Let's take a few more moments to rest in this space of presence and acceptance.
As we prepare to end this meditation, take a deep breath in, and exhale slowly. Start to bring some gentle movement back into your body, perhaps wiggling your fingers and toes.
When you're ready, slowly open your eyes, letting your gaze be soft. Carry this sense of presence and flow with you as you move through the rest of your day, remembering that just like the river, you have the capacity to embrace each moment as it comes.
Meditation Song
[verse]
Like a river, thoughts arise and flow.
Breathe in and feel your gentle glow.
Release resistance, let it pass through.
In present awareness, find peace anew.
[chorus]
Embrace this moment, here and now.
To the river of presence, gently bow.
Let go of struggle, rest in your core.
In mindful being, you are whole once more.
