Beginner's Mind
Present Moment Rest
❝In this meditation, we explore the power of being fully committed to the present moment and the transformative effect it can have on our lives.❞
Let's begin by finding a comfortable position, whether that's sitting cross-legged, in a chair, or even lying down. Allow your body to settle into a posture that feels stable and relaxed. If it feels right for you, gently close your eyes.
Take a deep breath in through your nose, feeling your belly expand. And slowly exhale through your mouth, letting go of any tension you may be holding. Invite your jaw to soften, your forehead to smooth out, and your shoulders to release away from your ears.
As your body settles into stillness, notice how your mind begins to quiet down as well. The outside world starts to fade into the background, and you find yourself here, in this moment.
Today, we're going to practice the art of being 100% present. It's a simple concept, but one that can be challenging to embody. Our minds are so often pulled in a million different directions, chasing after thoughts of the past or worries about the future.
But right now, we're going to let all of that go. We're going to commit fully to this moment, to this breath. Bring your attention to the sensation of the air moving in and out of your nostrils. Feel the cool air as you inhale and the warm air as you exhale.
If it helps, you can place a hand on your belly, feeling the rise and fall with each breath. This breath, right here, right now, is the only thing that matters. It's the anchor that keeps you grounded in the present.
When your mind starts to wander, as it inevitably will, simply notice it with kindness and gently guide your attention back to the breath. It's not about perfection; it's about the practice of returning, again and again, to this moment.
I'll give you a few minutes now to continue this practice in silence. Remember, 100% commitment to the breath, to the now.
As we begin to wind down our practice, take one more deep breath in through the nose and out through the mouth. Start to bring some gentle movement back into your body, wiggling your fingers and toes.
When you're ready, slowly open your eyes and allow yourself to reorient to your surroundings. Take a moment to notice how you feel after this practice of being fully present.
As you move through the rest of your day, see if you can bring this quality of 100% commitment to whatever you're doing. Whether it's washing the dishes, having a conversation with a loved one, or tackling a project at work. Notice how it feels to be fully engaged, fully present.
Remember, life is not happening in the past or the future. It's happening right here, right now. And when we commit to being 100% present, we open ourselves up to the richness and beauty of each moment.
Thank you for your practice today. Until next time, take care and stay present.
Meditation Song
[verse]
Distractions swirl, a mental storm's unrest,
But in this breath, we find a sacred quest.
Release the worries, let the mind run free,
Embrace the now, where true self comes to be.
[chorus]
One hundred percent, here and now,
Presence heals, this moment's vow.
Thoughts dissolve, like mist in sun,
In mindful peace, we are one.
